That's a quality win. -T |

He had 2 bike lengths on Petacchi and Peta couldn't close the gap fast enough. I think it helped that it was uphill into the wind. -T |

A shame for Petacchi he had to feel annoyed about making tactical errors rather than congratulate Fred on doing something few so far have done. I guess graciousness doesn't come easy to him. |

I guess graciousness doesn't come easy to him. Comments I've seen from Petacchi have rarely (ever?) been arrogant. From http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/200...=results/stage9 "Well once in a while, anyone makes a mistake. Fred was smart to jump early and I probably should have gone earlier and risked a loss - but I waited and Rodriguez got two bike lengths on me. I came back really fast but it wasn't enough. He took the risk and he won." Duking it out in that kind of melee requires a level of self-confidence that must border on arrogance anyway. Ben Not a Sprinter |

He took the risk and he won." I read that as Petacchi giving Rodriguez credit for doing what he may have known he should have. Petacchi seems to be a pretty good winner, but he's not so bad a loser. -- tanx, Howard "Moby Dick was a work of art, What the hell happened?" remove YOUR SHOES to reply, ok? |

I'm not sure FF would agree: Then as Fassa came back up to the front, the last guy to come around me going into the corner was Petacchi. So coming out of the last corner I found myself on Petacchi's wheel, but right away McEwen - the little boxer that he is - fought for the wheel. Now in the past, I'd wasted way too much energy fighting for Petacchi's wheel, so I just settled in on McEwen's. from: http://www.velonews.com/diaries/rid...les/6097.0.html (BTW, I actually won the VeloNews "pick the stage winner" contest for Saturday. My pick? Petacchi. Impressive, eh?) > > > How he figured he'd get away with that one... > |

Considering what Aug did for the team would you blame him? Cipo's the big dog on that team, no matter how you stack it, his presence keeps the sponsor's money flowing in and in turn keeps those riders employed. Bittersweet pill, no doubt, but when you are the marquee rider and go to a grand tour for one reason only, why not give him the riders he wants? |
