In the long stages, the peloton sometimes pulls over and gives everyone a chance to piss in the bushes for a few seconds. If a rider has to piss at any other time, he will probably slip off the back of the peloton, stop on the side of the road, take a piss, and catch back up to the bunch - this should be a fairly easy task most of the time because the bunch is not moving at an uncatchable speed. If the rider has to go at a more critical point in the race, he will move to a side of the road and make sure nobody is immediately behind him, try to untuck it, and piss off the left side of the bike (so piss doesn't get all over the sprockets and chain and spray everywhere). |

I guess you didn't watch the whole tour. The peloton does sometimes pull over, but normally it's before the TV cameras begin to air the coverage. We only see the last couple hours of what are normally 6 hour races. However, there was one time when the entire peloton pulled over while the TV cameras were rolling. The TV cameras showed the entire peloton stop, people get off their bikes, then while everyone pissed in the bushes, the cameras panned out to the scenery around them. The entire process took less than a minute, but it DOES happen. As far as coordination goes, the peloton can communicate this information very easily down through the bunch. |

Yes. They do. A rider on the front will shout or signal during the tranquilo part of a race and he'll pull over for a piss. Anyone else who needs to go does the same thing. TV and press photographers have a gentlemen's agreement with the riders not to film or photograph it. |

This one depends on how bad they want to win the race. |
