Default LA/UCLA Riding

Hi. I'm new to So Cal and was wondering what kind of road riding there is in the UCLA area. I'm a fairly seriour roadie but don't like riding along roads with to much traffic or small shoulders. Anyone of good rides from UCLA to anywhere and back in LA that has low traffic and comfortable/fast riding. I usually do 40-50mile loops.

Thanks alot

Try taking one of the canyone roads (perhaps beverly glen or roscomare) up to Mulholland. Mulholland is a windy road on top of the mountains - it will be a climb to get up there, and once you are there, Mulholland is windy with some small climbs and descents. There are several ways back down, but because the street traffic is so heavy on that side of the hill, you may want to spend as much time as posible along Mulholland (approx 13 miles from one end to the other) and take bev glen or roscomare back down to sunset. Take a look at a map - Mulholland is probably going to be your best bet to get out of traffic.

Another ride you can do is go down Sunset west to PCH (10 miles or so), then head up (north) PCH into Malibu. Sunset kind of sucks at times because of traffic, but it gets better as you get further west and once you get to PCH, the shoulder is wide and lots of people ride along there. You would probably then need to turn back around and head back the way you came because other surface roads will all lead you through dense traffic.

Check out socalcycling.com They have a list of local training rides, they take place all the time, and almost any day of the week.
