My sister and her friend are biking across the country in the fall, ie in about 2 weeks. So, here's the deal. The friend just bought a bike for an ordeal after figuring her old one wasn't up to it.
Can a Fugi Finest AL make it from Boston to San Diego with just rear panniers? I'm trying to help her out, since she's freaking out about the choice she made. Since she bought it (yesterday) she's been getting mixed reactions from people. Any help would be great, thanks. (Sorry I don't know more, I'm just trying to reassure her.) |

You guys will be fine. Remember that this is going to be a *team* effort. Act and think as a unit and it will be far easier and more enjoyable for everyone. There will be repairs along the way, to all the bikes. Use that to your advantage, upgrade when you have to/can. Carry a spoke wrench and learn how to true wheels while they are still mounted on the bike. A little daily maintence goes a long way. Also know that people have crossed this country on bikes alot less nice that hers. Maybe a trailer wouldnt be a bad idea, if theyre having space concerns. |
