Been a huge MTBer, I recently bought a road bike so I can train without driving 40 minutes to a trail.
I live in farm country so alot of straight roads (hilly too). I have to tell you, these car drivers are insane. Being an avid motorcycle rider I"m use to cagers being crazy, but on a bike its just wrong. I know this topic has been beat to death, but damn. What are they thinking? If they hit me, not only am I screwed, but they are going to jail. What is so hard about just driving around me. some feel the need to pass as close as possible, others flick me off or cut me off. Are car drivers threatned by my existence? When I drive, prior to road bike days, I'd just get as far over as possible. Never thought twice about it. This one car cuts me off, then flicks me off, then I see him pull into church (it was a Sunday). WTF is that?? Guess I'm just venting. |

i wonder if anyone has any stats on the number of car crashes which were the result of a bicyclist being on the shoulder or in the lane. I bet it's almost 0, but i know more than a few people who hate seeing bicyclists on the road and claim that it's b/c they are a danger to drivers. Just doesn't add up to me...

I'm heard numbers in the 7% - 10% range for overtake collisions, so most aren't of that type. Most are at some type of intersection.

Most people who get mad at cyclists , are fat , lazy , people who are jealous because they don't take the time to cycle themselves , so they have to show how much your upsetting them .

I see these people as cowards. They harass a target with no threat, with an easy and quick escape route.
I hate cowards. They're the ones who will cut and run, leaving their buddy(ies) hanging, when the going looks a little tough. ![]() |

It seems to be Human nature to ridicule and condem the unknown or what they don't understand. Pure ignorance and insecurity. I am afraid we a stuck with it.

I was referring to multi-car accidents or single car accidents where there is damage to the vehicle and/or it's passengers and not just the cyclist. When you say 7-10% i take it you mean that's the percentage of car-bike accidents which happen while overtaking? Not exactly what i was looking for, but interesting to me as a cyclist. |
