Default South CA,

Dear Reader

I'm planning to go to the US, southern part, Texas, Califonia etc in februar marts for 6 weeks on my own training camp. I'd be happy to receive suggestions about which group or the possibility to ride together with other riders. Back in Denmark I ride competitions and the motivation for this "travel" is to be ready for next year starting April 1.

Please feel free to ask any further questions

Kind Regards
Lars

Lars,

Here is a link to a bike path that I ride as a 65 mile roundtrip from Huntington Beach to Corona and back in Southern California.

On this page you will also see links to other trails that connect to this trail.
It is great riding and there is zero risk from autos.

There are several biking groups that have group rides in So Cal:

Feel free to drop me an email if you decide to try Southern California. My grandparents were from Denmark and I know a lot of people that ride.

Regards,
Clark

There is a very competitive group ride every Sunday morning at 8:00am in Orange County, CA known as "Como Street". About hundred people or more ride, it's about a 35 mile fast paced ride. If your interested I'll send you the starting point. Other than that there are tons of rides in Orange County from 10 miles to over a 100. If you search the web for cycling clubs in Southern California, most clubs post their weekly rides and encourage others to ride along.

Here's two places you might want to check out:

http://www.huntingtonbeachhostel.com/
http://huntingtonbeach.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml

While these two places are close to each other, the cost is much different. You can stay in the hostel for a week at a price less than one night at the Hyatt.

Here is the best website for competitive cyclists in Southern California.

http://www.socalcycling.com/

Training rides can be found listed here:

http://www.socalcycling.com/Group%2...rGroupRides.htm

Southern California is a very large area with many alternatives for riding. It has been the winter season training area for most US pros as well as many European pros. Ulrich, Rominger, and A. Mercyx, have trained in and around San Diego. Von Bon, Berzin, Van Petegem and the Mercury team trained in the Simi Valley area (80 Km NW of Los Angeles) back in 2001. Armstrong and Ekimov trained in the Santa Monica mountains area and the San Gabriel Mountains this year (my backyard - my teammate ran into them on one of our favorite climbing rides) and US Postal holds their training camp north of Santa Barbara (300 Km NW of Los Angeles). Many if not most of the US based pro riders train somewhere in southern california.

The riding is as diverse as the terrain. I am willing to be a guide for you if you end up here. It depends on my recovery. I was hit by a car three weeks ago and my leg is broken pretty badly. I hope to begin riding again in early to mid January. I live in the Pasadena area (30 km north of LA) and I know most of the rides listed on the above website. I am a competitive Category 3 and Masters racer. I am not a consistant threat to win races but I can usually hold my own if I am in shape.

Lodging? Once again SoCal is a huge metropolitan area. Depending on your budget you can find something anywhere.

Hope this helps.
