It seems that the Canadian Cycling Association is charging some of our top athletes $150 for uniforms out of their own pocket. An article in today's Toronto Star explains that Danika Schroeter had to pay for her own Canadian Team uniform for the world mountain bike championships. It also goes on to explain that the uniform displays the name of the sponsorship much more prominently than that of her own country.
The Canadian Cycling Accociation states that the Canadian Cycling Association has omited funds and cannot cover the cost of outfitting the 53-member national team. Isn't the reason for sponsorship in the first place to cover costs by the athletes. Tim Horton's and the Canadian Cycling Association should have understood this and not burden the athlete. How many of us meet and consume many coffee's at Tim's. Starbuck's anyone! RP |
