Looking for a used road bike

I am 5' 9" and looking for a good used road bike in SF Bay area. I plan to do at least 15 to 20 miles a day.
I would appreciate any tips on were to buy and what to look for.

I would visit your local bike shops in the area. They usually have an abundance of older, good used bikes that have been inspected. I have successfully bought off of Ebay, but that might be luck. Ask around clubs, club riders will usually ride a bike 2 years tops. Most clubs have websites and forums, or numbers you can call to ask questions.
Good luck to you, and don't forget to inspect that used bike frame, joints and underneath for hairline cracks and dents!

I have also bought off E-bay but you should educate yourself as to what you are looking for before you do so. If that is the route you pursue then visit a few bike shops and find the right fit,right bike and correct components to suit your desires.Otherwise you will be spending a lot for changes and upgrades.
If you already know bikes...... well then you already know this.

where in SF are you? There's a good second hand bike store on Fillmore St (cnr Haight). I used to live right near it, the guys in there have plenty of good older bikes depending on what you want to do with it. These are not high end bikes at all, mostly good for commuting and some training, I wouldn't say they stock "racing" stuff but it all depends on what you want.

I am in Foster City (San Mateo) . The city is not far off and I can try. I was interested in any shops on the peninsula - Stanfod / Mtn View / San Jose - too.
