Ok...back in Oct 2001 I was coming down a mountain road (on my road bike) well a car coming up the hill/mtn turned into a drive in front of me. If that wasn't good enough he then backed out....into my path! Well long story short I slammed into the side of the Red Jeep Liberty. Now...it was a violent collision and I do not remember the impact or the crash! Last thing I remember was getting water at the spring at the top of the climb. Ok...now with that said...I usually carry a few GU packets with me on long or whne I go hard on a ride. I have a habit of keeping them in my shorts...just above my knees. You know...it is easier to get to them! Well from my conversations (a few months later) with EMT that were at the scene. The one guy that cut my shorts off said he was just glad that he had gloves on because he just didn't know that the heck the clear sticky substance was on my thigh! (They did later find the packet of vanilla bean GU that had exploded on impact!) I am just glad for the EMT's sake that I did't have Chocolate outrage! For more info. and pics of my in the hospital and pics of the Jeep I hit got to my website.
http://faculty.plattsburgh.edu/robert.light The GU people I talked to liked the story too! I did tell them that it was not exactly a good promo! Dang it so much for my advertizing career! Pedal On, Bob Light |

Damn... I hope they threw the book at the driver. Judging from your story and the pictures, you were in the bike lane and doing everything correctly. The driver obviously wasn't paying attention and was the cause of a very bad accident. Hope you're fully recovered.
