Default Fitting a front derailleur

Anyone know if its possible to fit a 31.8 diameter front mech to an
old Dawes Galaxy with smaller diameter steel tubing (think its 28.6) -
does anywhere sell collars to fit around tubing ?? Cheers.

I think Shimano supply them with some front derailleurs (I know they do with
Deore).

You should be able to order the correct spacers from your LBS. I recently
did a similar thing, moving my front mech from an aluminium "large" frame to
a steel "small" frameon my touring bike.

You can make shims by cutting them from a beer/coke/soda can. Cheap and
effective.

Ah yes, but make sure you use an aluminium can.
