Default First time

Nathan is cycling to college on Mr N Frosty this morning. First time he's used
the 'bent for the college run. It'll be interesting to find out from him what
the reaction is when he gets to college. Vernon is even cycling with him today,
just to get out on his bike as he's been deskbound for an age.

Cheers, helen s

It sounds as if you share it a lot.
Do you alter the boom length each time? Or do you have one of those
clever length adjusters that takes up slack.
When KJ rides my trice we place a fairly solid cushion behind her to
push her forward a bit.

Or one of those happy arrangements where legs are similarly long for it
not to matter much?

It is amazing the lengths some people will go to in their love life to
make bike sharing easy!

Me, I'm the opposite. She can't ride any of my bikes, except the
Brompton, and I can't ride hers.

I am happy to confirm that both of my legs are approximately the same
length..

Didn't help you on Becky's Windcheetah or the Senior Service Special

I don't ride over-long bicycles.

I find the leg length on the 'bent to be _far_ more critical than on the
upright.
The knees start complaining if decide to make adjusments of even a small amount.
But adjustments to arm length make very little difference unlike
altering stem length on the bike.

That said, I am always amazed at how many cyclists ride unsuitably sized
bikes, seemingly without problems.
Getting a bike to fit is one of the best (and cheapest) improvements
that can be made and the rider, once set up correctly, will rarely want
to go back to their old position.

One of these things where different physiologies will complain
differently, I suppose. Though I do have a preferred length for a 'bent
it doesn't seem to bother me much if it's a little short (since I set
heights/lengths by extending until it suddenly all feels wrong, setting
it any amount too long is usually a Problem), while on an upright I'll
fiddle straight away with seat height if it's at all possible.

Agreed, but it depends to some extent on the amount of faff involved if
sharing. If it's for a quick hackette I'll just leave it wrong if it's
at least usable without discomfort. It's not as comfortable as setting
it properly, but then if comfort was my only priority then I'd use the
'bent more than I do and the Brompton less.

My legs are both pretty much the same length. Nathan's legs are the same and
his are a similar length to mine. :-)
