I wish the wind would change direction soon. I'm fed up of doing a full day
at work and then facing a 12 mile ride into a 50 mph headwind. Last night it took me 90 minutes to ride home, sometimes the gusts of wind slowed me down to walking pace. I'm also arriving at work far too early, if only it was the other way round! -- Simon Mason Anlaby East Yorkshire. 53°44'N 0°26'W http://www.simonmason.karoo.net |

Ride to work in relative calm and watch the prevailing westerly build up during the day. Today was something special, though; on occasion I sped *up* to walking pace. Still it's only 5 miles e/w for me so I'm not suffering as much as Simon. Just looked at my spreadsheet; so far this year I've cycled 135 miles out of a total distance travelled by all modes of 184 miles. My aim is to make 200 miles in the month. |

The slower pace up the hill coupled with the gusting wind has made it pretty darn tough for the last few days. |

I'd suggest treating yourself to a nice pint en route to cheer you up. I've had the opposite today.. Flew home across SW London with a nice tailwind ![]() Pete |

It seems to have gone on for at least a couple of weeks and I'm really getting fed up with having to ride into a fairly strong wind into work in the mornings. And I never, ever (well rarely) get any benefit on the way back to make up for it, because it's either died down or is just a cross wind which is just as bad. It made such a pleasant change to be in Switzerland at the weekend - no wind that I noticed, only hills - they seemed so much preferable! Rich |

I've been fine recently as I work almost due west from where I live, so it's been a struggle to get into work apart from this morning when I managed to draft a slowish (c 20mph) van till it dropped me on an incline and dumped me into a headwind which left me struggling at 10mph the rest of the way. Coming home I was clicking up through the gears while almost freewheeling and was up to almost 40mph before putting much pressure on the pedals. |
