I'm new to cycling forums and the UK thread. I'm actually from Canada but I'm drawn back to tour England year after year by heritage and the love of fine English ales.
I'm planning my October 2005 tour now. It seems like I'll do the Thames Severn route on the Sustrans maps. It will give me a chance to see Avebury and drop in at the Swindon Beer Festival. As I sort out the details, I'll probably have a number of posts inquiring on detailed local knowledge. For now I'm looking for the basics. How many of you are famililiar with the National Cycle Network route 4 and 41 from Gloucester to Reading? Keeping in mind the winds and hills and other factors, which way should I do it? Should I start in Reading or Gloucester? |

Try emailing Sustrans direct, they may be able to put you in touch with one of the local rangers. I believe they do have a few that don't mind being contacted to give local information.
