Default Forked up

I hate to ask an ignorant question, but I was feeling ignorant last night as I pounded the top of my fork with a rubber mallet!!

I am trying to overhaul the headset (Aheadset) on one of my bikes (MTB) I seldom ride (has about 2,500 miles on it total and has never been overhauled and is only ridden on the trails). It is a Marzocchi Bomber LT fork (suspension). I removed the top hex nut and the all couplings and half expected the fork to drop out, but to my surprise it did not.

While being nice to this newbie and not calling me a tool, what "tool" do I need to use to get this fork and subsequent headset off?

Pound it as you have. All it is, is the headset is simply pushed in there. Just have to work it free. Some headsets have a much tighter top 'cap' than others.

Serious? OK. I thought I was giving it the 'ol 1-2, but I'll get ye' 'ol mallet out again and give it a go.

Thanks for the help.
