Hi !
Are you the sort of person who wonders why you get up so early to go for rides on the weekends? Do you love that bit extra sleep in ? I know i am. Let me get to the point. Just like the next enthusiastic cyclist i love the group rides, however i dont like the early starts that most groups head off ie: 6am/7am. Firstly I was wondering if i am the minority. Secondly, i was wondering if there was already a group ride that leaves slightly later on Saturdays and Sundays ie: 9am - 10am. If so Where ? How Far ? How quick ? Lastly, if there isnt a group and im not the only cyclist who appreciates a few extra Z's after a weeks hard work. Let me know. Maybe there could be a late risers group set up to accomodate people similar. Just a thought ! Have fun |

Timbo, I can't join you for a ride you have my moral support.
Why do so many bike riders hate their beds so much? I have turned down many invites because they start at 6, 7 whatever. |

Simple truth is, I love my sleep as much as the next guy, and yes it is hard to get up at 5.30 to go for ride. BUT: Less/no traffic. Generally cooler/stiller/fresher, the morning air is fresh and sweet in your lungs. You can still enjoy the rest of the day when you get back from your ride at 10am (a lot of people have family commitments on weekends. Sooooooooo much nicer to ride early that it all feels worth it once you get up and the legs start spinning. |

Thansk for the reply's.
Good Point about the traffic Nitrous. Nothing worse than dealing with the endless amount of bad drivers on Beach Rd. True the traffic is substantially less around the 6-7am time. However on leaving around the 9-10 time i have found it to be quite reasonable.( lets not go anywhere near the afternoons on a good day on beach rd.........every man and his dog comes out of the woodwork) Also a good point about those people having family committments. No Billy Lids to take care of at this stage for me. Thanks for the Moral Support wongaga. I was starting to feel like the black sheep of the cycling community ha,ha. Don't get me wrong, i still endure the morning rides and actually enjoy them once i stop riding with one eye open. Just seeing if any one else looks to ride a little later. Especially with good weather and the chance to catch some sun before the dark and gloomy months roll over. Gclarke8, how do you find the traffic at 9am on weekdays ? Unfortunately work doesnt allow for me to get out at this time so i usually head out at 6pm ( daylight savings ). Yet to work out a schedule once this ends. Thanks again ![]() |

Timbo,
we are in the eastern suburbs. After 9 and before 3, all the Commodore utes are at work, the mums have returned home with the 4wd taxis, so its not too bad. We stick to the cycleways most of the time, however prams can be an issue in South Perth though... ![]()

Some more reasons:
In summer it can really start to get unpleasant after about 10am, it's just way too hot. I ride before work, in order to get a decent ride and get to work at a decent hour I like to leave early. |
