Hello all,
I plan on biking from Paris to Bordeaux this summer. I plan on going from The 2nd week in July to the 3rd week in August. I have never done anything like this before. I workout often and I am a pretty decent cyclist. I plan on camping out at different campsites when I can and some hostels where I can afford to. I haven't ironed out all the details yet. This is just something that I really want to do. Does anyone have any advice or know of the best route to take. I have read that the Loire valley gets a little boring. Are the any campsites that I should aim for? I plan on having a pair of ortlieb rear panniers as well as a handlebar pannier. Any advice comments would be appreciated. Feel free to email me. Thanks Sherman sherman.charles@gmail.com |

Read your tour diary. Excellent. Can I ask how did you find your campsites? Did you always know exactly where you would stay? Also it seems that you rode from Angers to Blois and that took you 7 days. Does Paris to Bordeaux sound a little optimistic? Especially for someone doing their first tour? I'm just trying to get an idea of how real my plans are.
Thanks again. |

We bought Lonely Planet's Cycling France, and also the France Rough Guide. Between those there were enough ideas on where to stay. Sometimes it was a challenge to actually locate the campsite, but usually signage was pretty good. Since it was our first tour, and my wife hadn't done much riding prior to this we decided to keep distances between 40-60km per day. This worked out just fine for us. On our trip to Italy last year (also on my site) we did longer days and probably averaged about 75km per day over some hilly terrain. Its all going to depend on how fit you are I guess. Possibly start with shorter stages to get into the swing of things. |
