Default Free training for SPROCKIDS instructors available

The Canadian Cycling Assocation (CCA) is offering free training for Instructors in the Sprockids program.

The Sprockids program introduces cycling and cyclign safety to kids. It has done very well in BC where it gots its start. That is thnaks in part to a big effort put in by Lesley Tomlinson of BC, whom I think shoud be our next CCA President. It has been somewhat slow to spread elsewhere.

It is a worthwhile effort.

I have take the liberty of posting this PDF document available at the CCA web site.

FREE TRAINING OFFER LEADS TO 300% INCREASE

IN SPROCKIDS INSTRUCTORS!

Ottawa, ON - Due to the overwhelming response and, to ensure that all those interested will have the opportunity to become Sprockids leaders leading into the 2005 cycling season, the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) has decided to extend its offer to provide free instructor training for Sprockids through to May 31, 2005. In making this decision, the CCA’s Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Lacelle, had this to say. "We are extremely pleased with the cycling community’s response to trial free training. Recognizing that grass roots and youth development are extremely important to the CCA and our provincial cycling partners and that an extended commitment to this investment will generate even more opportunities for kids to learn how to ride safely, we are excited to formalize and extend this opportunity".

To make the opportunity even more convenient, baseline instructor training is now available on-line in English with French language set to be launched within weeks. For complete details, please log on to the Sprockids website at www.sprockids.ca and visit the leader registration page. For best viewing performance, the CCA recommends a Pentium 3 processor or better (350MHz or better), Windows media player 7.0+, Microsoft internet Explorer 5.5 with Service Pack 2 or better, Screen resolution set to at least 800 x 600 pixels, Cable or DSL internet connection and Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0+.

If you have specific questions or are ready to take advantage of this opportunity, please contact Christine Lafontaine at admin@canadian-cycling.com

Established by leading educators specializing in sport and recreation, Sprockids is more than a "learn to cycle" program designed to teach basic riding skills and how to ride safely. Sprockids is about teaching children aged 9-12 the importance of goal setting, personal values and self-worth and discipline. Most of all, Sprockids is about helping kids develop self-esteem while having fun, making new friends and receiving a positive introduction to cycling as a lifelong health and fitness activity.

Join the Canadian Cycling Association and the 130 (and counting) instructors in their efforts to bring Sprockids to kids across Canada!
