What days do you/are you interested in riding?
What part of San Diego are you from?
How many miles are you interested in riding?

Hi,

I am visiting San Diego the week of the 24th of July 2006 and want to ride up Palomar. Anyone interested? I will be happy to drive.

Are you wanting to go up the East Grade or the South Grade road?

The South is the steep one and is about 6-7 miles to the top.

The East grade is longer and less of a hillclimb 12.5 miles to the top.

You should try and make some sort of loop out of it.

We have a casual group here in Ramona that rides every Friday to different parts of the back country and there is a 60 mile loop that goes from Santa Ysabel up 79 to76 and then across and up to either grade and make the loop back to 76 and then instead of going back up 79 you take Mesa Grande road from Lake Henshaw. It's a great loop that we do frequently during the year.

In July you would want to get a very early start for the heat.
Perhaps I could schedule that loop to coincide with your visit.

Sam

Well, I am too unfamiliar to know which way, but the steeper would give me better bragging rites and a better graph on my GPS. I am available all that week for riding. My only fear is keeping up with you guys.

Nah
Don't worry. No hammerheads here. Here's the info on my group.

Ramona Fun Riders (for want of a better name) is a casual non-competitive recreational road cycling club. We ride every Friday morning (weather permitting) from 40-60 miles (occasionally more) in the beautiful backcountry around San Diego. Although our active members are quite capable we ride mostly "Moderate" to low "Brisk" average speeds (see chart below). If you are a total hammerhead or conversely totally out of shape this is not your club. Our only goal is enjoying the outdoors while sharing the adventure of a fun, scenery filled ride. We re-group on hilltops and no one gets left behind.

MPH are average speeds and do not factor in stops.

Social: 10-12 mph Moderate: 12-15 mph Brisk: 15-18 mph Fast: 18+ mph
