Default Racing in New York

I'm planning some holiday time in new york (im from london) and thought it would be fun to take the bike over and, besides doing some riding in central park, maybe take part in some local races if possible.

Can any locals give me an overview of what is on offer within riding distance of manhattan.

Also what is the situation regarding permits etc - I implicitly have a UCI licence as part of my british cycling licence.

Thanks.

Don't know about races, but I can hook you up for a recreational ride on the Jersey side of the river. We regularly meet in Tenafly NJ on Sunday mornings for 30, 40, 50 or so miles. You could ride from NYC across the GW Bridge or take the ferry and ride to Tenafly. There's another group that I go with sometimes that meets every morning for different rides. Wednesday is hills, Tuesday is race Nyack and back - fun and furious, Friday is easy ride, etc...

I'll be in London with a biking friend on May 19th to do a 300 mile London to Paris ride on behalf of Action Medical Research of the UK www.action.org.uk

Let me know when you'll be in NYC.

Hey Rob,
check out the Atlantic section of http://www.racelistings.com to find cycling races in NYC. There are almost always races within riding distance from Manhattan. Check out Kissena Sports for a list of their races. And there are also races in Central Park. Do a search for the Century Road Club Association (CRCA) and you can find out info there as well.
Have fun!
