Default Touring Toolbox

What is the essentials in a self-sufficient tour of a week or longer?

Not the obvious... tubes, foldable tire, allen wrenches, spare spokes, tire levers, et al - but what ELSE is that illusive "Damn! I wish I'd brought...." ?

For instance... I carry about a dozen, jumbo-sized safety pins. Great for temp-mending pannier bags or other such fabric emergencies.
