Default GP de Beauce, I told you so

I posted this on the Canadian Cyclist.com web forum today but it may not still be there, as Rob and Tracy Jones have banned me there (my ideas are very dangerous) and systematically remove anything I post. You can decide for yourselves how offensive the comments below are.

If I am hired as the Director of Marketing Operations for the CCA in this next week or so, one of my first plans is to launch a CCA web site forum where issues can be discussed and aired without all the rumour and misinformation found on the Canadian Cyclist and Pedal Forum sites (obviously that will not make me very popular with CC and Pedal since that site would be in competition with theirs. )

A CCA web site forum would be the ideal place to float policy balloons to gauge their popularity and validity. It would increase transparency and accountability by ensuring some public discussion before decision are taken affecting all of Canadian cycling. It would also generate traffic to assist with the planned merchandise sales on the CCA forum.

Thx.

As I suggested all last year, it was inevitable this* was going to happen with the new UCI points system. (*this refers to a comment that

GP de Beauce will have fewer foreign and high quality teams this year)

I warned everyone. I told the media. Jim Christie of The G&M was supposed to look into it. Did you ever write that piece Jim?

I asked the CCA what was their plan. They had none.

You ignored it here (CC forum).

It would be nice if the national sports media did pick up on GP de Beauce (another concern of the poster on CC forum) , especially since Bell is a title sponsor, is it not? Last time I checked Bell was still a fully Canadian company with interests across the country(http://www.tourdebeauce.com/)

The national (read Toronto) media probably will cover Beauce, however. It is the ONLY International men's road race in Canada, just in case the guys in TO are wondering why they should cover it. Plus there is no conflicting Stanley Cup this year as there has been in the past.

Of course, were I to become CCA Director of Marketing Ops you could be sure the media would know of the event and have everything it needed to properly report it.

To be frank, GP de Beauce itself is somewhat to blame for its poor coverage in mainstream media outside of Quebec.

The organizers in Beauce really only care about getting coverage in La Presse, Le Journal de Montreal, Le Journal de Quebec and Le Soleil (Quebec City). They used to not even care if it got in The Gazette.

That mentality may have changed but maybe not.

Thanks for your answers Mr. Arzouian on the other threads. I am a bit baffled as to why the CCA did not have a forum in the first place. Anyways, your idea is good. I hope you push the idea whether of not you get that position.

As for the GP de Beauce, I would have never heard of it if it were not for my involvement in cycling. With hockey out of the picture, you would think the papers would be dying for "filler". Lots of Jacques and F1 these days in the sport pages. Normally my paper would have a 2X4 inch block of F1 info on Teusday.
