Default Food on the Bike alternatives?

Hi, so I'm starting to do more and more longer rides 2hrs+ where I need to take food with me. I've been buying sports bars and gels and these are all well and good but the expense is really starting to add up. What are some of the alternitives you guys use that can be bought at most Aussie supermarkets?
Cheers Mat

It's probably not entirely healthy but I pack any of the following -

Jelly Beans
Snakes (the confectionary variety as live ones are a mongrel to digest )
Breakfast bars
Nuts (I prefer cashews but any should do)
Rice crackers (more-ish and the Coles I shop at has a pack with ten mini bags for under $5.00)
Money (if you're not riding too far from shops)

With the jelly beans, snakes and nuts you can place these in a sandwich bag and use a cable tie, or whatever they're called, to keep them from spilling in your pack. This takes up very little room in your backpack or whatever you choose to carry them in.

try making your own energy bars, (recipe outline next up):-

oats, apple sauce, chopped peanuts or almond flakes, mixed fruit, and/or chopped pitted dates, dark choc chips and some organic flower to bind, & maybe a small amount of coconut to taste, shape into those new flexi bake moulds and oven bake.

play around with the recipe to suit, and cooking time to get the firmness you want, they will harden after cooking, maybe add some honey, but not too much, (avoid too sticky) . your co-riders will want them too so you'd better make plenty, wrap in foil, or greaseproof, easy to unwrap and will keep for a week in air tight container.

handy, light, tasty, nutritious and release just what you need on long rides....
