I'm considering building up a Tandem racing bike and putting a PM on it, with computers for both riders. Has anybody equipped a Tandem with a PM for both riders? Which system did you use? If you used PT, did you install two receivers? Thanks in advance for any input.

I can't specifically answer this question, but i seem to recall someone on the Wattage list at Topica did this. Maybe search the list, or post a help message! I'm not sure how you'd put two receivers on though... Ric

I take back what i said before. i realise now that you'd just put on two receiver kits and then have two computers! Too much thinking about the TdF! ric

What are you going to do about the axle? Can you change it to get 145mm spacing with the PT hub? If so that would work well I think.
But I share your concern about brakes, when I first built my tandem I had standard calipers, and with the cable slop they were weak, after going to a mechanical disk on the rear, I would be really hesitant to give that up... But if you can get a PT hub with 145 spacing AND disk compatibility that would be ideal. |

Wow! An example and pics. Just what I was looking for. You guys are good. Still don't know what I'll do about brakes -- maybe I'll skip the brakes and just get an air horn.
Thanks, all. I'll let you know how it goes. |

I realize everyone and every situation is different, but FWIW my teammate and his wife had a tandem they used on local roads, including very hilly terrain in the mountains of W PA using only the V-brakes that came stock. Come to think of it, he and another teammate won the nat. champs for tandems on the same bike and on a fairly hilly route at 7 Springs, PA. You may find that stock brakes are enough, especially if you stick to normal tandem territory (flats). Good luck and good riding, Jimmy |
