Just saw the picture of the speedo on the camera motorcycles register 100 km/h chasing these clowns scream down a twisty, narrow mountain pass.
The guys in the marshall's car must be ex F1 drivers, they were flying around these suicide bends in order to get out of the way. Crazy Scotty |

Sounds like they're racing to me. The roads looked patchy, but over the top the road kinda opened up a bit &the lack of trees meant that you could see past/through corners which is proberly why the speeds down the other side were so high.
It's when they're cranked over in a corner & you see them pull their inside foot out of their cleat is when things get mega scary for all conserned. After seeing that there's an inspiration to go out & have a go at that, but who can go shoulder to shoulder down a road when you're not carrying a race number?

Me and my freinds had competitions to get the fastest speed recorded on our speedos over a couple of years we tried, we managed once to have our photos taken by a speed camera on a road with speed limit of 90km/h, but i think we managed 120km/h was the best we ever managed, and it wasn't me so i lost the competition, i only got to 109km/h, but what do you expect i have a MTB, and was absolutely sprinting to get speed up before the decent, but i believe the extra weight of MTB helps to speed up down the hills, helping with inertia. To get these speeds you need to try a road with no hairpins as that takes all your speed and corners you can lean right over and make it around without needing brake and very small chance of going over, we only managed to 7 broken arms and 1 sprained ankle which is pritty good how often we tried over a 3year period and there was 3 of us, a shame i suffered 3 of the broken arms and the sprained ankle. You also need a long flat to be able to sprint before the decent, to be able to instant be on 60km/h at start, and then put a really high gear on your bike one that looks really out of place and absolutely push the hell out of it with head ducked down for aerodynamic position.
Have fun in your endeavours

The 120 my friend got was on the way down to lithgow and my 109 it was actually off road on a smooth fire trial in the middle of no where we found that seemed to just drop off at a cliff for about 1km, a road that i have no idea how a car would go down it without crashing, and how a car would have any chance of making it up it, so we got speeds by sprinting up to about 50km as we hit the drop and well no pedalling there on in, just head down and this one long striaght down hill made us all crash i was the only one to make the bottom but couldn't make the turn that was at the bottom and lost control trying to lock up, and overshot the corner to get a broken arm and the other guys well were alright as they just hit a rock or ditch on the way down and lost control at not too high a speed,

mmmmmmmmm might give that one a miss as I dont think my stoker would be to keen on the idea of suicide. I found a similar type of hill in Tuscany when I was riding a tandem with a couple of Canadians who were on singles. We all started going crazy down this hill when I noticed the right angle bend at the bottom. I put the hub brake on full and the front and rear cantilever brakes. Just made the corner when both tires blew from overheating. Way to close for comfort. Cheers Geoff |
