Hello all,
I'm 16 and have been riding my mountain bike (Trek 4400 with semi-slicks) as a road bike for about the last year and a half and would like to finally get a proper road bike. The absolute maximum money I wish to spend is $1500 and was wondering what bike around that money would be best. I'm looking for bike only, no shoes/gloves/clothes, just the bike. I have been look at the Trek 1200 for the, Trek bikes are probably my best bet as I know someone who is willing to sell me one for cost but am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to the 1200 from the 1000. Is the Tiagra and the 105 gear all that it is cracked up to be. I've also been informed that the 1000 is not made by Trek, but the 1200 is assembled and made in the Trek factory in the USA. Does this make much difference in terms of performace? I have been looking on ebay for 2nd hand bikes as well and came across this one, I am thinking it would be about worth $550 and it appears to be the right size. The only thing I am concerned about is that it doesn't have a carbon fork, does it make much difference? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Thanks Alistair |

As with all purchases, you always spend more than the absolute, can not spend any more, no matter what, amount that you set. So, having said this, the other month I purchased a Felt F70, which is a 105 equipped bike with carbon forks front & rear. This cost me $1599, and I love it. However, having said that, I have a friend who has a $1000 Giant, always leaves me far behind, so while it's nice to have the best money can buy, in the end the performance difference really comes down to your own power & fitness. |
