Default First Cycling Event

Well I have 1 week left before I race for the first time. A gradient map is posted at http://www.wicklow200.ie/2003/11hills.shtml.

Looks terrible, lets hope the last 4 months training has paid off.

1500 metres is not that bad for a 200k event. My last race had 1500 meters and it was 120k. I like climbing though. I wish you a great ride.

First part between sectors 1 and 5 can make or break you.
Some nice climbing towards the end. Save yourself for that part of the race, I reckon.

Good luck and let us know how it went.

Well it's over and we had a great day. Took it easy and had plenty of fluids and carbs with us. The Slieve Mann climb was clearly the hardest climb of the day, it just refused to end but my hill climbing training paid off and made it to the top OK. The weather was perfect and the craic mighty amongst the Irish riders. I was overtaken by Sean Kelly and gang who were absolutely flying...

So now I have to find another ride to enter and figure out how to increase my fitness / strength / staminer to that I can attack more the next time.

Thanks to all who answered all my questions coming up to this, prepare for more as I attempt to race again...

Ta
