Default suggestions on which power tap to buy

I would like to purchase a Power tap but dont know what model and wheel to buy. I will use for training and maybe TT if i become fast enough . Im not rich and cost plays a part in which unit i purchase. Im 56 and just want to be competive and feel a PT will help.

The PT Pro has more capacity and provides more data. The SL doesn't provide any additional functionality but weighs less. The PT Pro is probably worth the additional cost, but the SL may not be worth the additional cost unless you plan to race seriously with it. The PT Pro and SL can both be adapted to Shimano or Campy clusters.

The SL is waterproof too, isn't it? Might be a concern in a wet climate...

Yes, the SL is waterproof. They had some problems with the o-rings on the original SLs and stopped shipping them for awhile. But, they seem to have fixed that problem now. I understand that Saris employees rode SL hubs around while colleagues sprayed garden hoses at the hubs as part of the testing program.

All the PT's are waterproof. The SL has much better bearings than the PT/Pro. I think the Standard and Pro only differ in the cpu and harness....the hubs are the same, I believe. The Pro harness has a cadence sensor and the cpu has more storage and more functions. Check out the "comparison chart" here (the gray box on the right of the page):
