Default Concerned about Shimano wheels...

I just got some shimano wheels thrown in on a groupset I bought second hand. My concern is that I regularly snap spokes on my rear wheel, it's a velocity deep dish rim with 32 thick gauge spokes. This 'new' set of shimano wheels has only 18 spokes, I think they're 540's (I could be wrong). They're the ones where the spokes cross over to the other side of the rim from the hub. (Hope I'm making sense...)

Anyway, if I'm a powerful rider am I asking for trouble with these wheels? Are these spokes made from some 'miracle' metal that will be twice as strong as my current thick gauge 32 spokes on my back wheel?

Any other 95kg sprinters out there use these wheels?

If you are snapping spokes even if you are a "powerful rider" you need to find a better wheel builder.
Velocity DeepV's are a popular choice for tandems and if the wheel is well built there are no problems with spoke breakage.
You will more than likely find that the shimano wheels are better than what you are using.

Cheers
