Default Buying a bike in Sydney

Hi,
I am sure this has been asked in some form or way before ...

I am thinking of purchasing a Giant TCR composite. Any idea of how much they go for in the shops?

Are there any other models/brands I should be considering within this price range?

Thanks in advance.

so, you want a reasonably priced carbon bike?

How much do you want to spend? The main price differences will probably just come down to the group set and the wheels.

Some of the Sepcialized carbons are reasonably priced, but usually not quite as cheap as Giant.

these Team Alex Inexa carbons are pretty cheap

Hi there,
Thanks for the link. They look like very nice frames. Unfortunately I have not been able to find out how much they cost.

Giant seems to be the most affordable. I am happy to have ultegra level components, and just nice reliable sturdy wheels.

here's the Giant Aus site:

http://www.giant-bicycle.com/au/030...0.asp?year=2005

the TCR Composite 1 and TCR Composite 2 both have Ultegra

If I were you, I'd first try to hunt down a 2004 model for the best price.

Lawrencia Cycles in Melbourne have the '05 TCR 2 on special for $2990, so you should be able to beat that

The Lawencia Giant TCR Euro (2005) at $2490 on the same link looked like a keen price to get a full 10 sp Campy setup.
  • Full Carbon Fibre frame
  • Full 10-Speed Campagnola Centaur Running Gear
  • Ksyrium Equipe Wheel Set
  • All sizes available
What else can you say , just adding up the price of the parts $$$ seems value.

That does indeed sound like a great buy. Is Centaur the equivalent of Ultegra in the ranking of parts?

technically, no, but in reality, I'm not sure, it could be. Centaur is the 3rd rung Campagnolo stuff, but Ultegra is the 2nd rung Shimano stuff.

Early this year, Lawrencia Cycles (Melbourne) cleared out of couple of '04 TCR Carbons with Ultegra (I think it was 9 speed) for $2000, and I saw a few others for $2400!!

So, you never know, you should be able to get an Ultegra '04 for under $2400

that is SO BLOODY CHEAP!!

Okay guys its come down to this:

Giant TCR Euro ( Centaur)

Or

Giant TCR 2 Composite (ultegra groupo)

Its not my intention to kick off a Shimano vs Campag debate here. But from the perspective of parts availability, cost of parts, availibility of used parts, wheelsets, etc, which would be the bike to go with?

Thanks in advance

Yes the truth be told, I am swayed towards the Euro by the mavic wheels.
