Hey, didn't I suggest the idea of using Lori-Ann Meunzer to have a big fundraising dinner in Spetember or October 2004!
It only took the CCA ONE YEAR to figure it out...... They are not stupid over there at the CCA offices in Ottawa, just real, real slooooow. I guess there was no need to capitalize on the immediate after glow of the Olympics. Better to let the dust settle and all the hype fade away, much better for generating interest that away..... LORI-ANN MUENZER TO HEADLINE ROAD TO CHAMPIONS FUNDRAISING GALA DINNERS IN SUPPORT OF CANADIAN CYCLING August 11, 2005 (Ottawa, ON) - The Canadian Cycling Association has teamed up with Title Sponsor EPCOR to host six gala dinners this fall across Canada which will highlight Canada’s most celebrated medal-winning elite athletes. Olympic gold medalist Lori-Ann Muenzer will be one of the key headline speakers about her road to becoming a champion. The top chefs in Toronto (Oct. 19), Calgary (Oct. 25), Edmonton (Oct. 26), Victoria (Oct. 27), Halifax (Nov. 1) and Vancouver (Nov. 10) will treat 400 to 600 guests to an exquisitely themed meal which relates to Lori-Ann and her co-hosts Silken Laumann, Adam van Koeverden, Kyle Shewfelt and Simon Whitfield. The objective is to raise money and awareness for six of Canada’s sports federations, including cycling. National Track Coach Eric van den Eynde encourages you to support the events "as proceeds are targeted to help identify and develop new talent, and additional money would allow the Association to upgrade equipment which will bring us closer to the other nations competing on the track". This is your chance to have a direct impact on our national team programs as your attendance will directly benefit our national team athletes. Please visit www.roadtochampions.com for a complete overview of this exciting fundraising initiative. You can already register online for table or individual tickets or to assist with corporate sponsorship. Thank you for your support and we look forward to having as many of our members out this fall as possible. |

Do you think the CCA will tell anybody outside of the sport about these fundraisers or will they just tell only those already involved?
They wouldn't want to bring any new money into the sport, would they? |
