Default City Bike Required

Hi,

I am hoping that someone may be able to help me out with some advice?

I am looking to get a bike to use mostly for commuting to work (about 5 miles each way). It will mostly be for road use with possibly some very mild off road in the summer.

I was thinking about getting a city bike but being new to all this, don't really know the differences? I have a max budget of about £450.00. I pretty much had it down to either: a Ridgeback Switch Nemesis

or a Giant XTC N7

Which do you think would be better?

Thanks
