Question Newb Buying a Bike

I have been racing bmx for a few years, and i want to get into mtbing, what type of bike would i need, full susp or hard tail? What about susp how much do i need? I would like to ride xc, single track, and maybe some hill climbing, drops no bigger than 6ft. I am looking at spending around 1000-1500$ USA i dont mind buying used on ebay. Please help

Im 5'11 14yrs and still growing about 140 lbs.

I heard that the Trek is a nice ride, but check out the Kona Dawg, I think that it will fit for the kind of riding you want to do. It goes for $1399. Here is the link.

Thanks, that seems like a good bike, I may think about getting an 05 one used, or close out if I can. You think that bike will be good for the kind of riding I am talking about? Thanks
