Talking Bicycle vs. Car commuter race

As part of ABC 774's Transport thingo, refer to original thread here:
http://www.cyclingforums.com/t29813...rsday-1711.html

... some of *us* will be conducing a bicycle vs. car commuter style race tomorrow. Listen in at 7.45am (ish) for the kick off on Red Symons show.

Please don't place any bets on this, we'll try our best to cane down to Southbank and beat the car....

Pray, cross fingers...May The Force Be With Us...

A few years ago my cycle commute was always 35 mins, come hell or high
water. The drive was usually 45 mins, best time 30, worst 1.5 hrs. These
days, such a race would always favour the bike in Sydney IMHO - especially
yesterday during the IR parade and its impact on the city I'm told.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Dave E (Sydney)

Where is the starting point? Just wondering how far you have to go and
how much traffic the car will have to get through.

hehe.

I'll let *others* tells ya about the versus car version.

I'm doing the *versus Bus* instalment.
From Doncaster Rd (just east of Balwyn Rd) to Fed Square
Tried to import Lance for the TTT as it was to start at the DoncRd park-n-ride which would have meant going up the big feckin hill first, thus placing the win in jepoardy.
I'm now feeling quietly confident
Once the Bus hits Johnstone St I have it in the bag
(i can go anyway i want)

If anyone wants to donate 'enhancement additives' would muchly appreciate it. Listen for our interview at 8:20/35 ish
Got butterflies just thinkin bout it

I'll be there if required..

Does having domestics count as cheating or does it just help reinforce the fact that more bikes equals faster more cars equals slower!

Go you good thing Dutchy!!

I had my own impromtu bike versus bus installment on Monday.
Riding home from the city (Perth) to Marangaroo (about 20km) I played cat
and mouse with the same bus all the way (we were taking the same route).
The bus beat me by about 100 metres to where I turned off towards my street.
However if I were to take into account the time it would have taken me to
walk from the bus stop to my house and the times that I waited for him to
pull out in front of me, then I would have been in front by a few minutes.
(I will just conveniently ignore the times he had to wait for me so that he
could pull into bus stops, and the time it takes me to stretch, shower and
change after the ride!!)

Are you going to do the race home-to-office? By the time a motorist
lines up for the carpark, then walks to their office, you've given them
a flogging. (Don't count the shower - not a fair component).

Well it would be a fair component if you raced from alarm clock (bed) to
desk. I mean I certainly showered and shaved before work regardless of
whether I was riding, driving, or busing.

Did a recce from Northcote down to Southbank, approx 25 mins. With a shitful headwind and at least three dodgy decisions.

Now that we've R&D'ed the route further, we'll beat that erstwhile ABC staffer by a long shot. I hope...
