Default Insurance

I have just brought a new carbon bike and I am thinking of getting insurance. Does anyone know of good deals.

I insured both mine with Suncorp Metway, about $35 on top of my house and contents for all risks.

I just included my bike on NRMA as a specified valuable item. I insured it for $5000.00. I had to show a receipt for the value of the Bike. It costs me about 10 or 12 dollars a week extra on my house/contents.

The bike is covered for theft from the house and from anywhere I take the bike outside the house. If Im sipping lates in the cafe and some goon takes it, Im covered.

One thing to check for are the policy exclusions.

I'm aware that some insurers will not cover damage to your wheels & rims. Probably because if you even have a minor accident, you're pretty like to bend a wheel. Happened to me. Fortunately it wasn't something sexy like a pair top shelf Ksyriums.

I went through Middleditch (www.middleditch.com.au) and got linked to them via Bicycle Victoria. The policy through Middleditch is a home and contents type deal and does not exclude your wheels. Had some good feedback from some other riders who've made claims, which also gave me peace of mind.

Also found their service in terms of manner and speed of response to be on the money. Plus they cover my bikes for $20,000 anywhere in Oz/NZ and worldwide for $3,000 for a 90 day period when out of the country.

You should also think about insurance for yourself and 3rd party personal / property. I went through BV (part of the membership) but there are others.
