Commuter bike under $500
Does anyone have any thoughts on bikes for under $500? I just want to get to and from work, uni, home etc. Merida? Also, a good site for checking tour of Bright results? Cheers.

Giant CRX 4, Avanti Blade, both a little over $500, but worth it. You will get better road speed and comfort than with a mountain bike.

That's a very tight budget. Think strongly about second hand, but take a bike person with you to check out any potentials.
