I wish to cross italy by bike this summer, starting from the south and cycling up north to the Trieste region (and crossing the alpes into austria or slovenia, not sure yet). I've never camped anywhere abroad so i'd like to know what stealth camping is like in all of italy and which areas are best for doing so. I know it's illegal, but it will save some money.
Also, which is the best route up north? Staying on the west or east coast? |

I toured south on the East coast from Comacchio to Bari, and naturaly the coastal areas are densly populated. www.geocities.com/xilios/index.html
I rode through some places that might be good for stealth camping, like Parco Nationale del Gargano. I would advice on going through as many national parks as possible. I've read in these forums that asking farmers to camp on their land also works well. You could find out more at bikeforums.net. Cheers ![]() |
