Cycling in and around Barcelona
Hi, my wife and I are planing a tour from Maastricht, The Netherlands to Barcelona, Spain (late May early June www.geocities.com/xillios/index.html) and have a few questions.
We would like to know: How is cycling in Barcelona? Is it easy to get to the airport on bike or would we have to catch a train? Any recomandations on camping sites near the city? What about places to see in Barcelona? Also does anyone know where we could get air cushion plastic (buble wrap) to wrap our bikes for the flight home? Thank you in advance, George and Monique  |

Hi. I spent a year cycling around Spain - a fantastic experience. I have cycled from Barcelona Airport into the city several times, a good idea to get a decent map as you can then stay off the main drag into the city. Use map24 to see the alternatives to main highways (great detail).

From outside the station you can pick up good cycle tracks clearly marked throughout the city. It is quicker to go around by sea front if you want to get to the other side of the city. Be careful of your belongings in Barcelona - plenty of light fingered people waiting to get easy pickings. It is open all year, north east of Barcelona about 32 km from the airport. The advantage of this site is that the local train station is almost opposite. Also the train from the airport is on the same line as El Masnou, every 30 minutes, journey time 40 mins, cost 2.30 euros single. You could hire a bungalow on the campsite and leave the bikes inside while visiting the city, although I am sure the site will be able to lock the bikes up in some sort of storage facility. El Masnou is also celebrating its 50th season this year - run by the same family. http://www.guiacampingfecc.com/camp...&Camping=MASNOU There is another campsite at Castelldefels 14kms west of the airport - no experience of this site. Just enjoy the city - very young and lively. Sights to visit Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, Tibidabo, Montjuic, museums and modern art galleries.
