Default Looking for advice on derailer replacement.

I would like to upgrade my derailers. I have Alivio front and deore rear on my Giant Iguana. As far as I can tell so far the front is a top pull bottom swing for a 9 speed, clamp on. I'm looking for a replacement but I don't know how to determine what size to get (1 3/8, 34.9 etc.). My seat post is 27.2. And I see some models are "long cage". Was hoping someone could break it down a little for me so I can order an appropriate replacment.

Thanks!

Not sure why you want to replace those derailleurs, but you can determine the size of the front derailleur by measuring the seat tube diameter where the derailleur is clamped around the tube.

A long cage rear derailleur is the std setup for a mountain bike, and will allow you to run an mtb triple chainring up front and 11-32 or 34 at the rear.

I have the book here.

How many teeth on each of the chainrings? Answer: Shimano Alivio 22x32x42T splined.

If the ID of the seatpost is 27.2, the Giant book says 34.9mm, best to measure it to be sure. Most MTB FD kits come with spacers.

Deore on the rear is OK for 9 speed. In fact all the components seem to be well matched, why change? I see no advantage in changing unless you do the crankset as well.
