I have Chorus 10 speed, about 230 miles on it. Man, has it been a pain. With the 13-29, even the longer cage deraileur can barely handle it. When on the 29, the pulley rides along right up against the chain (read: noisy). I gave up trying to adjust it awhile ago and had my decent LBS take over. Still clunky.
No matter what the adjustment, though, it's just not the sweet and precise shifting I expected. Seemingly all the time on a downshift to a larger cog, the chain slips for a moment. Sometimes it pops back onto the original gear, especially if you don't really make sure you shift it far enough to get an authoritative and solid click. Hmmph. Note: upshifts (to smaller cogs) are crisp, fast, and perfect all the time. Is this normal behavior? I didn't think all that much of it until I rode an Ultegra-equipped bike for a few minutes. Whoa, huge difference... |
