Default What type of tire size to use.

Im presently using a tire size of 26X1.95 in my MTB. I plan to do my biking on paved roads. I was advised to use a size 26X1.38. What type of tire size should be used on the road or on off road?. When is it advisable to use 26X1.38? or a size 26X1.50.?

Thanks a lot.
