Default Cycling in Malaysia

Hi..
I'm travelling to Malaysia, namely Kuala Lumpur, in late June to early July and would like to know if anyone has riden there. I'm taking a road bike and hoping to do some "shop rides". If anyone knows of websites or links to bike shops or cyclings clubs in KL it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance..

Default Re: Cycling in Malaysia

Two years ago I rode the length of both coasts. Roads are pretty decent almost everywhere but the Western side has much much more traffic than the Eastern side, which I found more enjoyable. I liked seeing the rural traditional muslim culture in smaller villages. The drivers are more aggressive and less cautious toward cyclist than the Thais or Indos, but I had no issues with close-calls or rudeness.

I am told the weather is more unpredictable on the East side, but it never once affected me.

As for bike shops, you will be hard-pressed to find any to supply the more modern components outside of KL. I saw no evidence of a cycling culture in the country. There might be some riders in the larger cities, but again, I didn't see any rec. cyclist.

Enjoy

Hi there,
I'm off at the end of the year on an 18 month tour up through SE asia, then across Tibet (if we can get in) and into Nepal/India. Was just wondering if you have any general advice/ recommendations for any countries youve been to?
Roads, Traffic, Camping availability, Weather, that sort of stuff.

Cheers
