Please post up some of your best time trial times. When posting, please post the distance, time, and level (ex.. Cat V, Cat IV, Cat III...etc..etc..)
I have not raced in quite some time so I am curious on how times have changed since I've raced. Some of my best times that I can recall: 5mi time-trial (USCF Cat IV Jr. *first year racing) 11:34 seconds (won 12 out of 12 time trials and the series) average times were mid 11-minutes. Bike was a pinnarello time-trial with spoked rims (normal rims) and aero bar. I am very far from that form right now so it would be nice to know how much work I have ahead of me...I'm sure those times are nothing impressive these days! Thank you in advance!!! How did you average 26 mph in a 5 mile tt, yet less that 21 mph for the 25? Just curious. |

I only ran one 25 mile time trial, it has been so long that I cannot remember the exact distance or times...I do recall the 5mi 100% so I am probably off on the 1-hour!!!! I will remove that one...but if someone could please post up some of their times I would appreciate it! thanks for pointing that out...my apologies!!! I am sure it was a better time since I did medal in the event out of a combined class. |

No problem, I was just curious. I'm a junior now, I can do a rolling 20k in so-so conditions in 28.5ish minutes (done in training, haven't done one in competition recently). That's without even clip-ons. I'm hoping to drop it to 27.5 with clip-ons and a good position. |

I appreciate it, I apologize again...I should have verified that time since I wasn't sure! Only reason I remember the 5mi time was because it was the last time trial of the season for me and I passed everyone who started in front of me Thanks for the info!!! I bet times have dropped so much! Good luck with your racing!!!! |

20K = ~12.4 miles right? In 28.5 / 27.5 min...excellent...this is a start thank you! Good stuff!!! Have you ran a 5 mi by chance? If I recall back when I raced Jrs the average was mid 12's for most Jr's... Again thanks! |

Ok, I did some research...I think my time was right over an hour probably 1:00:12 which is where I probably screwed it up! I know it was slightly over an hour, 12 minutes would not have beaten out Cat IV, and CatIII's so I'll see if I can dig it up! So 18K, 20K, and 40K are still the standard correct? Now I have some goals: 18K - 27min - 28min 20K - 32min to 33min 40K - 57min to 58min Perfect, now I at least have somewhere to start...of course now I just need my old legs back ![]() |

These are some baselines so you're 100% correct but I have to start slow at first...these are by no means "end" type goals if that makes sense? Last edited by steve : 12-03.-2006 at 12:27 PM. Reason: fixed broken quote |

are you a pro? http://www.velonews.com/race/int/articles/9603.0.html Cancellara won this ITT in around 27.5 mins for 20 km. He's one of the top riders in the world and it sounds like you are not to far off. Who do you race for? |

No, I'm a somewhat-above-average junior. For comparison, if my tt times match what I do in training, they willl result in high cat3 or mid pack p/1/2 finishes (haven't raced a tt since last July) The race report said that was an extremely slow course. On a fast course they would be under 25 minutes. |

1991 State of Tennessee Time Trial Championship, Cat 4: 40K, 57:45, flat course with a clip-on aero bar on a standard road bike and 36 spoke front and back wheels. Age at time = 23 years. 2006 Time Trial Race (yesterday), Cat 5: 7 miles, 17:24, flat course with a clip-on aero bar on a standard road bike and 28 spoke front and back wheels. Age = 38 years, been back riding for 6 months after a 14 year layoff Pro 1-2 winning time in the 7 mile TT was 14:30...three freaking minutes I have to gain before I'm good...that's the difference between Der Kaiser and Pantani in a TT!! Local club TT is 18 km and my best time last year was 25:47. Slooooow.
Roland Green holds the course record at 21:09 which is around 51 km/h.

I raced Cat IV and Cat III (I won every TT I entered as a Cat IV and III ) However, I stopped racing that season and was racing for Team Onslaught which had several sponsors but, that was back in the late 80's and I was a Jr. If anyone raced in PA/MD/NYC/NJ area they probably knew who I was (I was in bicycle magazine a few times as well in the results section)...BUT...NOW is a different story...I haven't raced since and I'm starting up again so I don't know what to expect...I consider myself a complete beginner with some experience but that was the past!!! *Please don't take that as me being arrogant or cocky...I worked hard and I guess I had a talent for the sport so please keep that in mind.* Why did I stop? I was in a car accident, a truck ran a light and cut my car in half causing me to injure several ribs, tear several tendons in my left hand, and damaged my neck which caused a lot of pain when riding. :-( I'm just thankful to be able to throw my leg over a bike again and be 100%...so I am happy to offer advice for those who race. |
