Default Window shopper advice

Hey guys,

I'm looking into getting a road bike in the next couple months. I'm not sure just yet, as I also have an engine swap and a turbo to buy for my car, but then, I want to see how this summer starts off as far as what I'm using more. Living in NYC, the bike will see more use, but I'd like to see how serious I get before I decide for sure.

I'm a fan of Trek, but willing to consider anything that reliable sources would recommend. I will have anywhere from 1000-1500 to spend, especially when I add in my tax refund... I'd like to see a mostly CF frame, but for that price, I doubt it. So what can you all recommend?

I'd be willing to learn to build a bike, but I know that things get much more expensive when you have to buy separate components.

I want this entirely as a road bike, purely for sport, so it doesn't need to incorporate unnecessary features. (Just a comfy seat!)
