Default new road bike for a mountain biker

I'm looking to buy a new road bike, but I only have experience with off-road bikes. I'm near the dealers for Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Pinarello, and Giant, and I'm looking for a bike to do long rides with hills, but not races. I'll spend up to $3k and I'd like to know which 3 or 4 models are worth trying.

Any ideas?

Dude $3k will get you alot of bike. Are you loaded cuz it would seem to me that your in the racing price range. While I cannot give you advice on brands I would say Damm thats alot of money. While I have the same question about brands I am the $300-$400 price range.

$3000 for a non race bike...Damm
