I have an road bike with racing wheels, etc that I want to change into a hybrid for city/towpath/light off road use.
Is it possible to put rigid/suspension forks on the bike and change the setup so it has 26" mtb wheels? |

You might be able to get away with saying with 700c wheels/tyres/forks.
I think a few suspension manufacturers making 700c compatible forks (I've heard of Rock Shox, Manitou and Cannondale making them, at least.) A couple of race teams used them in the Paris-Roubaix. You might find some 700c hybrid/touring tyres have the tread pattern and extra thickness that you're after. The main issue is tyre clearance with the frame and brakes. (i.e. the tyre might be too fat to fit between the brake calipers, or you may need to deflate the tyres to fit them.)

Althogh it would be cool to have a 700c wheel road (cyclocross?) bike with a rigid mountain bike fork and a mtb wheel, kind of like an off road funny bike!
