Default Prices

Hi,
Firstly, sorry I can't write in Dutch. I was wondering if I could be given a little help. I intend to move to Holland in July after I graduate, to work in engineering, and I was wondering what the prices are for bikes in comparison to Scotland. I' ve been looking to buy a new racer, but wasn't sure whether I'd be as well to wait until I'm in The Netherlands. Would someone be able to give me the price for, say, a Trek 2000?

Also I was wondering are there any cycling clubs for novices over there? I'd imagine that they are all of a very high standard and would worry about being humiliated!

Beannachd leibh,

Don't worry I don't speak Dutch either I'm an American working here for some time... Bike prices can vary depending on what you want... Not sure what you sales tax is, but it's 19% here - Germany is still at 16%, but I understand it is due to go up. Also - what part are you looking to move/work/live in? I'm in South Limburg - where the costs of living are somewhat lower, and the german border is VERY close, and goods are nearly always cheaper there.

One of my local shops is actually a Trek retailer - I could ask how much a typical T2000 is running...

Hi,

Don't bother about the Dutch, most of us can speak English! About your Trek, it retails here for about 1800-1900 euros, but you'll probably be able to get a better deal when you go to a shop here. As far as I know bikes are a bit cheaper here than they are in the UK, parts are definitely cheaper.
If you want to have any further advice: send me an e-mail since I'm not on this forum too often...

Erik
