As someone who struggles with the dreaded bunions, I am dreading going out and looking for cycling shoes. I've heard that folks with normal feet sometimes find them a bit snug. Another benefit of my foot is that it's normal sized throughout with the exception of the bunion area..which is really wide (obviously).
A search online has shown me that only men's cycling shoes seem to come in wides. And, as I'd probably be a 37 or 38...none of the wide shoes start that small. Any suggestions for when I do get up the nerve to start trying them on? Thanks! (I also posted this in the Equipment threat but then just noticed this forum...seems more appropriate!) |

I also have the same problem. I started a few years ago with an entry level Specialized Mountain bike shoe that has been very comfortable. Now that I'm riding more I wanted to upgrade to a stiffer soled shoe. I tried on SO many shoes. All of women's shoes felt way too tight in the toe box. Finally I thought that the Sidi Bullet II men's mountain bike shoes would work so I shelled out the cash and bought them. Well, when I actually attached the cleats and went for a ride my feet were killing me. I can't return them so I guess I'll be selling them on EBay soon.
A lot of people said to buy the Sidi Mega which is wide but I was nervous to buy a shoe that I couldn't try on. Also if you go by Sidi's sizing chart I should fit into a regular men's width. I guess those charts aren't always accurate. I know that Rocket 7 has many widths and can make custom shoes but they are very expensive. I'm still hoping to find a different shoe with a stiff sole that accomodates my weird feet. Let me know if you have any success. |

Standard mens shoes are usually slightly wider than wide womans shoes. There is a difference between the manufactures, so you should try on as many as possible. One advantage you have here is that when there is a runout sale, it is usually the smaller sizes like the 37's that are still in stock.
