I have just built up a Giant (with help from a friend) but am unsure which 9 speed cassette to fit(I am running on Deore 9 speed rear mech and xt shifters, but I am not sure what the 11/32 or 11/34 bit means (well I am a novice) what would be best for me ? I am really after something to be easier to peddle up hill as I live in the Espuna mountains of southern Spain am 49 years old and 15 stone plus but want to get fit eventually.
Some advice would be appreciated. |

11-32, 11-34, there is not a lot in it, whichever you have handy. The Crankset may be more important. What have you chosen there?? The smallest chainrng, something not too big I hope, a 22 or 24 tooth, the rest (middle, big) not so important with the big hills.

OR, if a 28t is the largest cog you normally need, then having the 32t to bail out on will be slightly BETTER because the overall weight of the cassette will be a little less. Oh, you know, it could just be me ... I use the LAST cog in the cassette for bailing-out ... dead weight most of the time, and the second to the last cog is the largest "normally" used. Since you seem to have both available to you, I would recommend that you start with the 11-34 BASED ON HOW I SPEC MY CASSETTE ... you may find that the 30t is a bit too easy, or not. |
