Hi Everyone, I am new to the form.
I have been looking at the Trek 2300 and the Cannondale R1000 to purchase and am having a hard time deciding which would be the best for me. I would appreciate your opinions on which you prefer, or would you choose something totally different in that price range? At this stage I am just a fitness rider, but am hoping to move into competitive riding. Hope this is not to general of a question. Thanks! |

Someone beat you to this question
Refer to the thread link below:http://www.cyclingforums.com/t30470.html Personally, I'd buy the Cannondale. They're both great bikes, but I prefer the frame vs. component quality tradeoff of the R1000. (Components and bits are far cheaper to upgrade than the frame.) The other questions are fit and riding style; you might find one bike fits your body better, or rides more comfortably. I have no problems comfort wise on my CAAD5-framed road bike (similar frame to the R1000, except it's made of 6061 aluminium and not the special alloy) and it fits me like a glove.

Trek is king of carbon fiber(oclv). Cannondale is king when it comes to aluminum. If you want aluminum....I'd go with cannondale. Cdale does a wonderful paint...and decals are meant to last. I'll be jealous if you get a new cannondale. It's the same frame that simoni rides in the grand tours...however, the 2300 is not ridden on the pro circuit...but rather the oclv frames are.

I am having trouble deciding between the 2002 Klein Quantum Race and the 2003 Cannondale R2000. I had been looking at the Felt F35R but I rode it and it just didn't feel as good as some others I had ridden, but for the price you couldn't beat the components. I have since found a 2002 Klein Quantum Race for $1700 out the door (including all tax, etc). This is a full Ultegra bike. The only thing is that the shop owner says he robbed the wheels, derailleurs, crank, and brakes for a bike he built for another guy when he was out of those components. He now has them in stock and says he will put everything back exactly as new (except of course they would be '03 year components). I am thinking of offering him $1800 to upgrade the wheels from the Bontrager Race Lite to the Race X Lite. I just can't decide if this is a good deal for the Klein. I bought the same exact bike for my wife last December for the same price, but the bike was only 1 year old then and technically it is almost 2 years old now (since it has not been ridden, this would only be a factor if I tried to sell it some day).
I would like to get the '03 Cannondale R2000 for $1850 at Supergo, but I live in the east and their site claims they won't do mail order. This bike has similar components but is one year newer and has the Mavic Kysirium SLs which are equivalent (at least in weight) to the Bontrager Race X Lites. |

My local bike shop has told me that the 2004 Cannondale R1000 will be $100 less than the 2003 R1000. Same equipment, with the colors being in black and Sobe green/yellow.
Knowing this, it would not make much sense to buy the 2003, even with their present 10% discount. Just need to decide on which color to order? |

I recently got a Cannondale r2000 and love the bike. It fits me really well - I am a relatively big rider (6"3' 200lbs) - and while at first the ride seemed a little harsh and the saddle seemed like a razor blade, I soon figured out that it was because I was comparing it to my MTB! After a couple of weeks riding I am really happpy with the bike.
I tried a trek 5200 as well as a colnago that was way beyond what I was prepared to spend, before getting the r2000. Peter |
