Default ban the whole team

Cycling is a team sport if im not wrong. So why is it when someone gets done for drugs (landis!) only he gets kicked out and banned?

Its a team sport firstly so the whole team has effectively benefited from them, but secondly its very hard to believe that these teams who control everything a rider eats, drinks, does arnt fully complicit in the drug taking.

banning individual riders will not get rid of the drug taking, entire teams need to be kicked out of the sport.

Just a point of order - Landis hasn't been 'done for drugs'. He's been notified of an 'A' sample which shows high levels of testosterone (a naturally occuring hormone). That has not been confirmed by a 'B' sample, and until it does the news should never have been released/leaked to the press. If the 'B' sample comfirms the result, then he'll have to defend himself. Until such time, he's innocent.

very strange argument that.......

So when someone like Carl Lewis gets caught for doping do you ban the whole USA team from competing?
or when a football player gets caught do you disband the whole team..

or when Dad drives over someone while driving drunk back form the picnic, do they put the whole family in jail because they were in the car with him??

there's a thing called personal responsibility and people need to pay for the actions THEY take.

Lets stop blaming everyone else.

No your argument is the strange one.

carl lewis wasnt in a team.. his competition was a solo event.
however.. had he been in a relay team event.. then the whole team would have lost their medals under current rules.

although i was sad to hear about your father.. the event has no relation to that of professional cycling.

As for taking personal reasonability.. exactly.. currently there is no deterrent to the Landis's of this world.. they can't win without drugs so they loose nothing in risking it all.

However if they knew that if they got caught not only would it effect them but every member of the team. maybe just maybe it would put a stop to all this madness.

That is news to me, but it make a lot of sense. Do you know of any other sports that do this?

Yes but with your reasoning because he is part of the USA squad (aka a TEAM) then they should all be banned because SOMEONE has to know.

------------your words
Its a team sport firstly so the whole team has effectively benefited from them, but secondly its very hard to believe that these teams who control everything a rider eats, drinks, does arnt fully complicit in the drug taking.
-----------------

I was using the drunk driving as an analogy.......and it does have relevance because if that were indeed to happen, it can be argued that the whole family saw him drink at a picnic but didn't do anything about it. Just like a team member who saw someone dope and not say anything.

Most team members would not known if the other is doping because it's just another way that somoene might find out so everyone keeps to themselves. Would you tell your team-mate that you're on EPO ???

I still want to hear the argument for pro football/baseball/soccor...etc. players that are caught using steroids. For example...Barry Bonds...Should the whole team not be able to play...NO...Just him.

You obviously didn't watch the tour if you think that Floyd had a team
